    I compiled DSRemote for macOS using the LAN interface, and have ultra slow FPS, too. I was wondering if it was because macOS wasn't really supported, but it seems DSremote (or the scope?) is really that slow. Is there any way to make this faster...?

    • @ElectronoobGeekingOut
      @ElectronoobGeekingOut 3 місяці тому

      i think the scope really is that slow, but maybe there is something undocumented or new since I made this video. i tried some other things too but i forget what, i know i knocked up a shell script to pull data from the device - i think it was just to pull a screenshot though but whatever it was i recall that being quite slow too. i had a look but couldnt find the stuff i had experimented with, but there is another place i can try. will update you here - but if i forget feel free to prod.

    what ended agariomods anyways

    • @ElectronoobGeekingOut
      @ElectronoobGeekingOut Рік тому

      (part 1) At the very start I was just a fan of the game like everyone else, then a friend encouraged me to make an addon for it because there wasn't a working server selector mod that worked any more. When my mod started to get used by a lot of people, a team of us started to form and then we (agariomods) began a good relationship with Zeach (guy who made agario), where we were given early access a couple of days before anyone else to big updates so we had a chance to update our mod to be compatible etc. Props to Zeach for that. At some point though, where miniclip had bought the game the collaboration ended. At first it was just a lot changes happening, really regularly, which made it tough for us to keep updating fast enough to keep up. We were serving millions of players by this point, and so, any time our mod broke we had a lot of miserable people to help and so we did it as fast as we could. That lead to burn out, many on our team had gotten over the initial fascination with the game anyway, and so.. as more breaking changes occured we stepped back and decided that we weren't really going to try very hard to keep up any more. We still kept up, but, I was entirely sick of it by this point.. Then another developer we met had develpoed a framework, so that mods like ours can use that system to build on top of.. meaning that a larger community could take advantage of all the updates we all made, in theory making it easier to keep up and take a lot of work off of our shoulders. We did a big release, it went well, and we were quite pleased with it. At some point though, might have been before this release, I received a cease and desist or whatever it's called where a legal representative of miniclip threatened us trying to make us shut down. I reached out, explained the relationship we had with Zeach mentioning his real name etc to try and prove that actually, we can back up our claim that it was with permission etc. Around this point, miniclip decided that it would totally change the way the game was made for the web browser. Previously it was in a language called JavaScript, almost all of the websites on the internet now use it in some form and whilst the stuff that we had to wrestle with had been processed in a way that made it seem like it went through a blender to mangle and compress it - it was something we were good at working with. The new version was more akin to a program you might run on the desktop, i can't really describe it other than to say it was no longer human readable. I mean, .. in my teenage years I did tackle that kind of software modding as well but it's a lot more laborious. I made some progress to reverse engineering it, was able to do some basic things like change the leaderboard text and some other visual things but it took me hours to even get to that point. One of the key aspects to agariomods was that ethos that we would not distribute the code for agario, as in.. a user would go to the site and their browser would load the game as normal and THEN our mod would take over and make the necessary changes. I believed firmly that we shouldn't engage in any form of piracy or sharing code that wasn't ours. That was tough in many ways for us, but it also meant that we created ways for our code to automatically repair itself if an update came out that we hadn't yet seen yet ourselves. So, sometimes our code would withstand several updates by agario without breaking. This was essential as we hated the idea of pissing off millions of gamers when it broke. This brings me back to the point about the change miniclip made, with how the code wasn't the normal game code we had been working with and we kept a history of all game changes over time, which I obviously reviewed to try and understand the problem at hand. I don't know what changes were occuring on their side of things, but the result was that software that powered the game would drastically change in size and layout on almost each update.. sometimes multiple times in a day. I guess as they were ironing out their new game code it was necessary for them to keep fixing it up. So... I spent hours, just superficially modifying the game interface.. Where I realised just how much work this is likely to be going forward.. and then knowing that even if I do manage to mod it and get it back up to the high standard people expectedof us... I can't do that every day. At that time I was the only person on the team with the required skillset to pull this off, and I was already sick and tired of miniclip and their bullshit. My choices were,.. continue to support miniclip by providing something that drastically improved their game, keeping people playing the game, but ultimately lining their pockets and fighting with them daily or just.. ya know.. fuck it. I quit. I closed agariomods and everyone else were in agreement it just wasn't worth it any more.

      (part 2) The thing is though, the players like yourself, were awesome to make something special for. Felt awesome to make something that people actually appreciated and wanted to use. I miss that. Something else that may not be obvious to people who weren't within our team, it was that I had the pleasure and oppertunity to try and promote other individuals. Other game developers for example, I could sometimes promote a game that was great but not getting much attention yet, or the music and sound effects in the mod were from people that can make cool stuff but didn't yet have a lot of exposure. Large parts of the mod were contributions, that we took on and maintained to keep them alive, etc. We could provide game modes and servers that were local to our players, which meant that even though miniclip wouldn't provide decent servers to people, at least our players had somewhere that played smoothly and wouldn't keep crashing / lagging / etc. Im proud to know that we did a lot of good.

      @@ElectronoobGeekingOut I see, That must of been very tough to go through. It was fun while it lasted. I would of just made a new mod and host it on my own website or something like that. But, that might be hard work maintaining it, but probably not as bad.

    If anyone out there is going to do this with a regular soldering iron, try wrapping several cm of #22 bare copper wire on the tip, and extend the end a cm out, to take the heat and serve as an ultra fine tip to solder those little smt parts. Clean up with a wick and some rosin. Worked for me on my rtl-sdrs.

    You cannot import because of the size of the image. Imported need to be divisible by 2 down to 2. So 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 etc. The problem is you are trying to import 1024 by 1280. 1024 is fine, 1280 is not, you can either do 1024 x 1024, 1024 x 2048 0r 1024 x 512. 1280 is not divisible by 2 down to 2. I hope that makes sense and helps you understand, it is a great editor but it has its limitations.

    3 types of firing occlusions. 1. door trim 2. ceiling to floor 3. floor stumps [halfway to ceiling] ramps or slants come later unless part of an original design. 3 types of moulding. 1. corner tiers 2. baseboards [wide enough to run along] 3. ceiling trim 3 types of decor. 1. ceiling dividers [from full occlusions to wall] 2. plates [set in the wall for effect] 3. ridges [to make dug-outs more performable] REMEMBER: a player-model will duck below 81uu, and can move up a maximum of 32uu, without having to jump. thus 3 steps at 28uu, will allow a bot to pass quickly, but also allow them to duck and not get hit, if they stay behind. :) ^^ -msi

    awri so. 1. to import a bitmap you first need to name the map. 2. and to do that it's best to write some boxes on a sheet of paper. for the opening sketch. below you can use these measurements. 3. make the first level 640uu, in height. 4. make one box, 384 x 5120. 5. make one box, 512 x 1024. 6. make one box, 256 x 1536. 7. and make the main chamber, 4096 x 2560. 8. the second level you place over the first level, with a space of 216 between it and the first level. make this level higher than 640uu, say 704uu. 9. make the second level 3 boxes, side by side by 384, each one, 784 x 4096. 10. next take out one of these 3 boxes, and use that open space to build stairs, from the first level to the second level. 11. once you've name the map, when you import a texture, the Package will be called "my level", and the Group should be left empty. 12. also, you clicked new, not import, and with new it thinks you want to combine already existing material into a shader or a final blend, etc. 13. finally, connect the 2 levels with 384 x 384 halls, wherever you want. -msi :)

    hey electronoob. i only started ut2k4, since i found the 6 disc set at goodwill, back in 2012. but it was such a blast that i started mapping a couple of years later. although it might be hard to tell, it's actually a more forward engine than engine 4, where they made Fortnight. this engine was released around 2003, so it's very finicky. do you have a graphics card? that makes the engine freeze like that, if you don't have one. also it's top based, so when you click on texture, it's best to do it from underneath, and if you click on partitions, then it's best to use Top view, "T" on the window bar. :) -msi ^^

      yeah it took me a while to finally get online with the game cuz i didn't want to sign up for stuff and get dumb bills from someone i didn't know. but i eventually ended up at the UTzone site for maps and skins and custom stuff, in Germany. Donzi is the head guy there. do you already have the 200MB exe Bonus Package, that came out 6 months into the release of UT2004? they have it there are that site, no sign up and free download. ^^ -msi
